Monk Ward

The monk ward of Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital is situated on Boonruangrit road,  Amphur Muang, Chiang Mai , 50,200 THAILAND. It accommodates 35 patients.

 

Patient focus is for the Monk:

Nurses provide care and support to the Monk, with a focus on holistic care encompassing physical, psychological, social, and spiritual, health promotion, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation for the monk who is admitted in accordance with professional standards to assist in health recovery or remission of the disease. Observing and recording to ensure that safety and risk of complications are addressed in a timely manner. Health care that gives a better quality of life to relieve distress. Impart to the Monk knowledge and ability to care for themselves when they return to the temple to continue their community involvement with the lay people of Thailand. Staff is professional and competent in their skills and knowledge for the diverse nature of medical treatments that this ward provides to the Monks who present here for admission and care.   

 

Scope of services provided within this ward:

Inpatient: Illness except scald burns, and novice monks under15 years of age with medical conditions are admitted. Male Monks are the only patients who are admitted to this ward.
       Outpatient: treatment services are for all monks also are offered each day except holiday.

 

A key requirement of the patient:

Discharge of patients is based upon the healing aspects of the condition or remission of the disease, and service quality / safety standards that recognize and respect the individual health needs of this units patients in care. The focus of care and support are in regard to the accuracy, speed, coordination, communication between practitioners and a competent team work approach.

1. Provide nursing care of a high standard with respect to the health of monks.
2. Patient safety.
3. Personnel performance development – skills and techniques updated regularly.
4. Responsible and efficient care planning in consultation with the patient.
5. Technology, medications, service equipment and implements adequate and efficient.
6. Personnel management participation / achievement oriented in regard to helpful service delivery.
7. Personnel are healthy, happy, receiving regular in-service and training relevant to their job needs.
8. Environmental occupational health and safety standards monitored.

                Average shift of staff is 7-8 staff on day shift, with evening and night shift with 4 staff – this is adjusted related to the needs for that day/ night.

 

The major risk challenges:

1. Complex chronic diseases and respected treatment of patients in line with the faith of the people in care requires individual care, focusing on exceptional service, training and empowerment towards undertaking skills for personal self-care and management of minor to complex aspects of health care within the ward and when a patient is discharged from care.
2. Continual orientation concerning the four areas of the hospital organization structure - patient safety, quality service delivery, education and training for all.
3. Focus on the continued development of health security for all and organizational learning in regard to current health trends.
