REHABILITATION WARD

Nursing Service Division, Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital

Faculty of Medicine ,Chiang Mai University,THAILAND.

 

The rehabilitation ward of Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital is situated on Boonruangrit road,  Amphur Muang, Chiang Mai , 50,200 THAILAND. It accommodates 16 patients .

 

Type of patients who attend this ward

       This ward accommodates patients all aged both male and female who may present for admission with follow symptoms:

       1.Spine: Spinal cord injury and Spinal cord Lesion

       2.Brain: Stroke and Traumatic brain injury

  

Focusing on the aim of the hospital in the administration of this Unit:

1.Organizational strength: The Rehabilitation Patient Care Team has a role in guiding the treatment planning.

2.Patient safety: focus on proactive risk management.

3.Services quality: A continuous quality improvement.
4.Personnel health: health promotion throughout all consultations , procedures and monitoring of / for any risks and complications that may arise, both preventatively and unforeseen during their course of treatment.

      1. Spinal cord injury

      2. MS: Multiple sclerosis

      3. Stroke

      4. TBI: Traumatic brain injury

      5. Tumor/Cancer

 

Type of service   

There are 2 kinds in and out-patients who attend this ward

      1.24 hour care

      2.Urodynamic study 8.30 AM. - 4.00 PM

 

The treatment period               

These times vary depending up on the individual development of each patient.

 

Staff of The Rehabilitation Patient   Care Team  

       To provide efficient treatment it is necessary to have several teams taking care of the patients.

 

The teams consist of

    1.Rehabilitation doctor who is responsible for rehabilitation status examination, diagnosis, medication.

    2.Rehabilitation nurse who takes care of neurogenic bowel – bladder and skin care , general basic need , general – special nursing care, comfortable, security, health education , coordinate the team and deals with other departments.

    3.Physiotherapist who maintain and improve the patients’ motor power, walking/wheelchair training.

    4.Occupational therapist responsible for training activity daily living base on the patient abilities.

    5.Social worker whose duty is researching problems from family, office dealing with patients and concerned department providing on economic evaluation and disabilities ‘ rights.

Human resource development

1.Competency that register nurses must know is about

-Rehabilitation nursing

-Urology nursing

-Neurology nursing

2.Development :we develop our nurses by encourage them to participate the international training and workshop , do pre and post – conference   update knowledge and everyone should have

self development.

3.New staff : for new staff we have preceptor training system .

Nursing service

Care related to the basic needs of a person: personal care, dressing, appearance, nutrition, relaxation, exercise, sleeping routines, spiritual and emotional development.

The Medication administration, monitoring, adequate fluids, electrolyte and other treatment management skills identified in the nursing care planning for the patient in this ward.

General – special nursing care such as physical examination, checking vital sign, neurological sign, and observing the alliterative signs and symptoms – possibly related to their condition or a medication side effect.

Special nursing care for patients who has neurogenic bowel and neurogenic bladder.

Encourage and promote patient’s self care in activity daily living.

Develop the knowledge of self care as a supportive process for personal self respect and esteem, awareness of anger management skills and skills to reduce and manage this aspect of their lives.

Consult with other people and other health and welfare departments to assist the patient with disable and disability rights both in care and after discharge.

Defend and affirm the patient’s symptoms, during treatment planning provide legal assistance by letting the patients share their opinions and make decisions regarding treatments and outcomes.
